The observatory of Rokycany was founded shortly after the World War Two thanks to the endeavor of active devotees, amateur astronomers. The "old observatory" was built on the private estate of a member in 1947. Members' activities resulted in the decision to build a new, larger edifice and to buy a more powerful device for Rokycany. Before 1961, unpaid volunteers built basic structure of the main building of current Observatory in Rokycany, which was reconstructed and built up in 1996.
